It all comes down to the Snoopy mug. I have realized this about myself, and accepted it entirely. Whether I have a good day or not in large part depends on whether I start it off the right way. I need my coffee in the morning to wake myself up. I love the smooth taste of a good cup. And the way that just smelling the aroma of coffee brewing throughout the house gets my eyes wider. But it's just not the same for me if I don’t drink it out of my favorite cup. Maybe I'm weird. But I have to do it that way or suffer the consequences.

This all started when someone gave me a new cup. I had been drinking my morning blend out of my favorite Snoopy mug for years but I decided that it was okay to give something else a try. The new cup was something that he brought back with him from The Caribbean. He went on vacation there and was nice enough to think of me and to bring me a little piece of the islands to call my very own.
I was happy enough when I got it, even though I wasn't in the market for anything new. I like the tradition of starting my day with my Snoopy mug. It makes me hopeful. I guess I just figure - How bad could the day be if it starts off with a cartoon character smiling back at you?
The one he gave me had no cartoon character. It bore no resemblance at all to my beloved Snoopy mug. There was a pirate flag on it instead. That's more his thing. He's a freak about pirate lore. To each his own.
I tried, I really did. For a solid week, I drank my coffee out of that thing. But looking into the eyes of the skull just could not give me that jovial, happy-go-lucky disposition that I became used to. And for that week, my days were lousy, from the time I left for work to the time I got back. Everyone just rubbed me the wrong way, and vice versa, I'm sure. I never thought I would ever be so affected by the lack of a simple Snoopy mug. In fact, I wouldn't have believed it if anyone ever told me that they were. But it's true.
Now, don't get me wrong here. I am not trying to say that it has any special lucky powers over the kind of day that I have. I'm a little bit superstitioous, just like a lot of people are, but not to that extent. I just think that it's important to go through your day with a certain disposition if you want good results throughout. You give what you get sometimes. And for me to have this winning attitude, I need to kick things off by drinking coffee out of my favorite Snoopy mug. That's just the way it's got to be. I'll never switch again.
